Quick Baby: Instructions for Making the Bow

To make these darling little booties, you will need:

-one ball of Bernat Softee Baby Yarn in White (or any other light color)

-Size G/6 (4.25 mm) crochet hook

-scissors

-yarn needle

Note: The crochet instructions are written in American Terms. If you are using British Crochet terms, please see the link below for a conversion chart.

1) Chain 25 (or however large you want your booties to be). slip stitch into first chain to form ring.

2) Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), 2 dc into ring, *ch 1, 3 dc into ring* repeat from *to* around. Sl st to top of beginning ch 3 to close round. Do not turn piece at this point – we will start working in the round again shortly!

3) Sl st into next stitch, ch 3, 2 dc into same stitch, *ch 1, 3 dc into same stitch* repeat from *to* around. Sl st to top of beginning ch 3 to close round. Do not turn piece at this point – we will start working in the round again shortly!

Felting Instructions

Felting is a process of taking woolen fabric and transforming it into a soft, form-fitting fabric by using water and air.

Although it can be done with any type of yarn, felting with woolen fabrics is especially pleasurable because the fibers wrap around each other like fingers in a glove, forming a dense fabric that’s ultimately very soft.

To felted baby booties, you will need:

1 ball (50 grams or 1.75 ounces) of fingering weight yarn in light blue

1 ball (50 grams or 1.75 ounces) of fingering weight yarn in white

Fiberfill stuffing

Crochet hook size H/8mm (5 inches)

Instructions:

1) With light blue yarn, ch 2 and sc in second chain from hook. Do not turn work. Rep from beginning working in this manner until end of row has been completed. This will create bow on top of booties. Ch 2 and sl st to first sc to join

2) Do not turn work. With white yarn, ch 2 and sc in second chain from hook. Do not turn work. Rep from beginning working in this manner until end of row has been completed. Sl st to first sc to join.

.

3) Do not turn work. Insert crochet hook into top of bow on light blue booties and draw up a loop (see photo). Make sure there is no yarn left on hook. Work a sl st in the top loop of each white bootie bow (see photo). Rep from beginning working in this manner until all loops have been worked.

4) Turn work so that wrong side is facing and begin felting by placing piece of fiberfill stuffing between each white slst and gently pushing down on each one with your hands (see photo). Felting should result in booties shaping up nicely (see photo). Allow to felted for 24 hours.

5) To remove fiberfill stuffing, use a chopstick or skewer to poke it out between each white slst (see photo). Be careful not to pull on the yarn — just push on the fiberfill so that it pops out between the stitches.

Quick Baby Free Crochet Pattern

Looking for a quick and easy crochet project? These baby booties are perfect! They are made with just one ball of yarn and require only basic crochet stitches.

The pattern is written in US terms, but the basic instructions are the same in UK/Australian terms. The steps involved in making these booties are:

1) Chain 10 (or any number you prefer).

2) Make 2 magic circles (or whatever size you like your booties to be).

3) Work 8 sc into first magic circle. Do not join, continue working in circles. (8 sc)

4) Work 2 sc into each of next 7 sc, then work 1 sc into last sc. DO NOT JOIN (12 sts total).

5) Work 2 more sc into each of next 7 sts, then work 1 sc into last st. DO NOT JOIN (16 sts total). If desired, you can continue working in rounds instead of stuffing these booties at this point by continuing to work 3 more sc into each loop after you’ve worked the final stitch.

However, I recommend stuffing them now so they will be less likely to come unshaped when worn! To stuff your booties: insert a piece of fiberfill or batting inside each “foot”, pushing it down so that the hole is covered but not stretched out (like before stitching shut).

Then sew closed using a slip stitch or needle and thread. Note:

-If you are using UK/Australian terms, then the instructions would be:

5) Work 3 sc into each of next 7 sts, then work 1 sc into last st. DO NOT JOIN (16 sts total).

6) Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew booties together later. Weave in ends.
