This Crochet Granny Stripe Blanket is the perfect project for advanced beginners. It’s easy to memorize and works up quickly. You can make it as big or small as you’d like, and it’s great for using up leftover yarn. This blanket is also versatile – you can use any weight yarn and any size hook.

I made mine with worsted weight yarn and a size H (5mm) hook, but you could easily use a bulky yarn and a larger hook for a quicker project. If you’re looking for a fun, easy project, this Crochet Granny Stripe Blanket is perfect!

Materials needed for the Crochet Granny Stripe Blanket

-1 skein of worsted weight yarn in each of 3 colors (I used Caron Simply Soft)

-Yarn needle
-Scissors

To start, you will need one skein of worsted weight yarn in each of three colors. I used Caron Simply Soft for my blanket, but any worsted weight yarn will do. You will also need a size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook and a yarn needle. Finally, don’t forget your scissors!

How to make the Crochet Granny Stripe Blanket

1. Start by making a slip knot and crocheting a foundation chain that is the width you would like your blanket to be plus two chains. For my blanket, I made a foundation chain of 82 chains.

2. Once you have your foundation chain, it’s time to start the granny stripe pattern! To do this, work 3 double crochet (dc) stitches into the fourth chain from the hook. Then skip two chains and work 3 dc stitches into the next chain. Continue this pattern until you reach the end of the row. When you reach the end of the row, turn your work so that you can start working on the other side of the foundation chain.

3. For the second row, work 2 dc stitches into each space created by the 3 dc stitches from the previous row. Once again, when you reach the end of the row, turn your work and begin working on the other side of the foundation chain.

4. The third row is identical to the first row – work 3 dc stitches into each space created by the 3 dc stitches from previous rows. At this point, you will have completed one repeat of the granny stripe pattern.

5. To continue the granny stripe pattern, work 4 dc stitches into each space created by the 3 dc stitches from previous rows. Once you reach the end of the row, turn your work and begin working on the other side of the foundation chain.

6. The fifth row is identical to the second row – work 2 dc stitches into each space created by the 3 dc stitches from previous rows. At this point, you will have completed two repeats of the granny stripe pattern.

7. To continue the granny stripe pattern, work 5 dc stitches into each space created by the 3 dc stitches from previous rows. Once you reach the end of the row, turn your work and begin working on the other side of the foundation chain.

8. The seventh row is identical to the third row – work 3 dc stitches into each space created by the 3 dc stitches from previous rows. At this point, you will have completed three repeats of the granny stripe pattern.

9. To complete the blanket, work 1dc into each stitch across until you reach the end of your foundation chain. Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.

Conclusion

This chunky, cozy Crochet Granny Stripe Blanket is perfect for curling up on the couch with a cup of tea and a good book. The blanket is made with super soft yarn in a beautiful variegated colorway, and it works up quickly thanks to the bulky weight of the yarn.

The finished blanket is lightweight and airy, making it ideal for use year-round. I hope you enjoy making this blanket as much as I did!
