Shell Stitch Blanket. This crochet shell stitch blanket is the perfect project for beginners! It uses simple stitches to create a beautiful textured blanket that is perfect for snuggling up on the couch. The best part about this blanket is that it can be made in any size, so you can customize it to fit your needs.

What is the Crochet Shell Stitch?

The Crochet Shell Stitch is a beautiful and versatile stitch that can be used for a variety of projects. It’s easy to learn, and once you get the hang of it, you’ll be able to work up projects quickly.

This stitch is worked in rows, and each row consists of a series of shell stitches. To work a shell stitch, you’ll need to crochet 5 double crochets into the same stitch or space. Once you’ve done that, you’ll skip over 2 stitches, and then work another shell into the next stitch. You’ll continue working in this manner until you reach the end of the row.

To turn your work so that you can start the next row, simply chain 3 (this counts as your first double crochet), and then turn your work.

You’ll then work another shell into the space between the last shell of the previous row and the turning chain. From there, you’ll continue working shells across the row as before.

When worked with multiple colors, the Crochet Shell Stitch can create some really stunning designs. This makes it perfect for afghans, blankets, shawls, and even garments!

How to Crochet the Shell Stitch

The Crochet Shell Stitch is a beautiful, textured stitch that is perfect for blankets and other projects. This stitch is worked in rows, with each row consisting of a series of shell stitches.

To crochet the shell stitch, you will need to first create a foundation chain of any length. Once you have your foundation chain, you will then crochet a row of single crochet stitches into the back loops only of the foundation chain.

To crochet a shell stitch, you will need to work 5 double crochet stitches into the next stitch, skip 2 stitches, and then single crochet into the next stitch. You will then repeat this pattern across the row until you reach the end.

When you reach the end of the row, you will turn your work and begin working back across the row in the same manner. Continue working rows of shell stitches until your project reaches the desired size.

Crochet Shell Stitch Blanket pattern

This Crochet Shell Stitch Blanket pattern is perfect for beginners! The stitch is easy to learn and works up quickly, so you’ll have a beautiful blanket in no time.

This blanket is made with worsted weight yarn and a size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook. You can use any worsted weight yarn you like – I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn in “Aruba Sea” for my blanket.

To start, chain a multiple of 12 + 1 stitches. I chained 121 stitches for my blanket, which measures about 36” x 48”.

Row 1: SC in 2nd CH from hook and each CH across. (120 SC)

Row 2: CH 3 (counts as first DC in this row), skip 1 ST, *DC, CH 1, skip 1 ST; repeat from * across, turn.

Row 3: CH 3 (counts as first DC here and throughout), *4 DC in next space between stitch groups (make a shell), CH 1; repeat from * across, ending with one shell made and one chain stitch left over. You should have a chain stitch plus 24 shells at the end of this row.

Row 4: CH 3 (counts as first DC here and throughout), skip next space between stitches, *DC, CH 1; repeat from * until you get to the last space before the end of the row – there should be a shell followed by one chain stitch at the end of this row. You will work your final DC in the turning chain of Row 2. Fasten off after working this final SC.

That’s it! Continue repeating Rows 3 & 4 until your blanket is the desired size. Fasten off after working your final Row 4 repeat and weave in all ends.
